About the Schroeder Institute

The Schroeder Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies ("Schroeder Institute") conducts tobacco control research with a clear and specific public health impact. Using a transdisciplinary “team science” approach, we work collaboratively with scientists, practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders to strengthen the science of tobacco control implementation, dissemination and policy. The Schroeder Institute was established by Legacy in 2008 and has formal academic ties with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Intervention Research

Our intervention research focuses on increasing the awareness of and demand for cessation treatments, as well as developing and evaluating a range of flexible and efficient cessation treatment interventions.

Conferences

The Schroeder Institute convenes thought leaders around specific and timely topics to identify pressing research gaps and to develop a strategic agenda that will guide the research and funding communities.

Policy Research

Since the passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act in 2009, the Schroeder Institute has played a national leadership role in conducting rigorous and rapid regulatory research to inform policy.

Training

Fostering growth among early-career scientists is integral to maintaining responsive and relevant tobacco control research. To this end, we offer a comprehensive training program for pre- and postdoctoral fellows.
